FAQ

NATUROPATHIC MEDICINE

What schooling is required to become an NMD?

For a full article on the education and philosophy of Naturopathic Medicine, click here

To enter into Graduate level Naturopathic Medical School you must have a Bachelors Degree and complete the same entrance requirements as needed for conventional medical school. Once accepted to one of the accredited naturopathic medical schools, we endure 4 years of schooling that includes both basic and clinical sciences. We learn the basics of any medical discipline, including anatomy, biochemistry, microbiology, physiology, pathology and pharmacology. In addition, we also learn naturopathic modalities such as Chinese medicine and acupuncture, herbal and botanical medicine, nutritional therapies, intravenous therapies, hydrotherapy, physical medicine, and homeopathy. We complete 2 years of internships during our final years of medical school and are required to see a minimum of 700 patients during this internship and complete 65 credits of clinical rotations. Clinical rotations are completed with a variety of healthcare professionals (NMD, MD, DC, DO, LAc). Once graduated from medical school, we are required to take and pass Board Examinations to become licensed. The board examinations test us on both basic sciences as well as clinical sciences. Once licensed, we are required to complete 30 hours of continuing education each year.

What is the difference between an NMD and an MD or DO?

MD and DO when it comes to basic and clinical and diagnostic sciences except that NMDs are required to learn additional naturopathic modalities, such as, acupuncture, botanical medicine, homeopathy, hydrotherapy and nutritional sciences. As a naturopathic physician, we seek to find the root cause of an illness rather than to simply suppress symptoms with medications and trips to the pharmacy.

If for any reason you have not heard back from us by 1 business day - we ask that you reach out, as there may have been a technical error. Our relationship and communication is a top priority and unfortunately, technology doesn't always work as we expect. We absolutely want to connect with you as soon as possible!

What conditions do you treat?

As primary family healthcare providers, we see conditions such as cold/flu, thyroid concerns, high blood pressure, anxiety, depression, weight loss, insomnia, infertility, gastrointestinal concerns, acne, anti-aging, pregnancy planning, fatigue, high cholesterol, allergies and more. We also have many clients who simply want to be proactive and improve on their current state of wellness.

What to expect on first visit?

Your first visit to the wellness center involves a detailed intake of your health history. Our Doctors will take the time to listen to your concerns and address each aspect of your health. The progression of your care is entirely independent from other patients as individual healing and understanding is the key to successful treatment. We will educate you on our evaluation and both you and the Doctor will discuss the plan to move forward with your care. For more information visit our Practice Policies Page!
